Volunteer with the Foreshore Working ‘Thursday’ Group
The Foreshore Working ‘Thursday’ Group help to look after the Lake Hāwea foreshore recreation reserve and we’re always ready for new members to join our team of friendly volunteers.
What do we do?
Weed, weed, weed - mainly garden escapees (we keep spraying to a minimum)
Plant new areas with local native plants, plant stormwater drains to mitigate run off into the lake, and replace plants that don’t survive.
Members service a line of DOC 200 traps in the reserve to help protect the birds and skinks present. The line is provided through the Wānaka backyard Trapping Group.
Collect rubbish-mainly plastic, broken glass and bottles/cans biffed under trees.
Report any damage.
Gear
We now have our own trailer for: spades, grubbers, rakes, herbicide, gloves, masks, road cones, knee pads, safety glasses, water, hand wash, sanitiser, towels, loppers, secateurs, fadges, saws, weed hooks, ear muffs, Hi Viz vests, chairs, sunblock are all supplied.
